Comprehensive performance evaluation of Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM), 8-Phase Shift Keying (8PSK), and traditional coded modulation schemes over Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel with implementation insights
Detailed Documentation
In this paper, we conduct a detailed performance comparison of BICM, 8PSK, and conventional coded modulation systems under AWGN channel conditions. To better understand the strengths and limitations of these modulation techniques, we systematically analyze their behavior across different Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) values. The evaluation includes MATLAB-based simulations implementing key algorithms such as constellation mapping for 8PSK, iterative decoding for BICM systems, and trellis-coded modulation schemes. We further investigate the performance characteristics of these modulation techniques under varying transmission rates and channel conditions, employing performance metrics including Bit Error Rate (BER) calculations and spectral efficiency analysis. The comparative study utilizes Monte Carlo simulation methods with parameterized SNR sweeps and modulation-specific error correction coding implementations. Through comprehensive comparison and analytical evaluation, we provide insights for optimal modulation technique selection in different application scenarios, considering performance trade-offs and implementation complexity factors such as computational requirements for demodulation algorithms and memory usage for interleaving patterns in BICM systems.
