This course design introduces MATLAB-based dimension measurement technology for workpiece images. Throughout this course, we will deeply explore fundamental principles and techniques in image processing and computer vision domains, along with practical MATLAB programming implementations for precise workpiece dimension measurement. Students will learn comprehensive image preprocessing techniques including noise removal using filters like medfilt2, image enhancement through histogram equalization (histeq function), and edge detection algorithms such as Canny (edge function) and Sobel operators. Subsequently, we will cover feature extraction methodologies using regionprops and bwboundaries functions to identify critical dimensional characteristics from images. The course will demonstrate how to utilize these extracted features for accurate dimension measurement through pixel-to-real-world unit conversion algorithms. Finally, we will analyze measurement results using statistical methods, evaluate accuracy metrics, and discuss common measurement errors along with calibration techniques involving camera calibration toolbox and perspective transformation. By completing this course, participants will master core concepts and practical applications of MATLAB-based image dimension measurement technology, providing powerful tools and methodologies for engineering and scientific research applications.
