The color-component based vehicle license plate localization and recognition system I developed serves as a highly practical tool. It enables accurate license plate identification and precise localization, facilitating more efficient related operations. This recognition system primarily comprises the following processing stages: First, we employ grayscale values derived from color components to identify license plates, with particular focus on vehicles featuring blue license plates. This is typically implemented through HSV color space conversion and blue channel thresholding to isolate plate regions. Subsequently, within the detected blue areas, we proceed to recognize white characters using contrast-based segmentation algorithms, thereby obtaining complete license plate information. The system utilizes morphological operations like opening and closing to refine character segmentation and employs template matching or OCR techniques for final character recognition.
This recognition system finds applications not only in traffic management domains but also in various scenarios requiring license plate identification and localization. Whether for parking lot management or traffic violation monitoring, this system significantly enhances operational efficiency.
