Self-developed MATLAB-based road surface roughness simulation program with customizable parameters
Detailed Documentation
We have developed a custom MATLAB-based road surface roughness simulation program that enables road engineers to better understand pavement irregularities for improved road maintenance planning and design optimization. The program implements spectral analysis algorithms to simulate various road types including highways, urban roads, and rural pathways, with configurable vehicle speed parameters for dynamic scenario testing. The core functionality utilizes MATLAB's signal processing toolbox to generate road profile data based on ISO 8608 standards, incorporating power spectral density (PSD) models for different road classifications. Additionally, the program features material assessment modules that allow engineers to evaluate the effectiveness of different paving materials and construction techniques through parametric comparisons. The simulation employs Monte Carlo methods for stochastic road profile generation and includes visualization tools for 3D surface plotting and roughness metrics calculation. This comprehensive simulation tool serves as an essential instrument for road engineers to analyze road conditions, facilitate data-driven decision making, and effectively plan road improvement and maintenance strategies.
